March, April, May Solutions Syllabus Series: Critical Element Pathways/Health Inspection Process

Preferred Therapy Solutions is pleased to announce the 2023 Solutions Syllabus Series. This nine-course series will provide extensive principles and evidence-based practices for LTC administrative and clinical teams on the basics of the Critical Element (CE) Pathways and its utilization in the Health Inspection (HI) Process.  Register below for March, April, and May sessions.

Introduction to Health Inspections and Critical Element Pathways
This program has been approved for Continuing Education for 1 total contact hour by

This in-depth course will cover the Health Inspection Process and how Critical Element Pathways are used to assign F-Tags and citations during the Health Inspection. Additional areas will include the types, frequency, and steps of health inspections, following the Long-Term Care Survey Process (LTCSP) Procedure Guide updated in Feb. 2023. The course will conclude on the impact of Health Inspections directly affecting Five-Star Ratings in Skilled Nursing Facilities.

Quality of Care Category – Behavioral, Dementia, and Medication Critical Elements
This program has been approved for Continuing Education for 1 total contact hour by

A thorough review of Critical Elements of Behavioral and Emotional Status, Dementia, Medication Administration, Medication Storage, Unnecessary Medications, Psychotropic Medications, and Medication Regimen Review. Specific areas on the Critical Element Pathways to ensure compliance with components related to each area will be covered, including observation, interviews, record review, and MDS coding. Participants will learn ideal practices in care planning, policy, procedures, and process improvement to minimize risk during the Health Inspection process and to improve the quality of care.

Quality of Care Category – Communication,  ADLs, Mobility, and Pain Critical Elements

  • Nursing CEs are provided for 1 total contact hour

A comprehensive focus on Critical Elements of Communication and Sensory Problems (including Hearing and Vision), Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), Positioning, Mobility & Range of Motion (ROM), and Pain Recognition and Management. A review of the Critical Elements Pathways to ensure compliance with components related to each area will be covered, including observation, interviews, record review, and MDS coding to determine facility compliance with regulatory standards. Participants will learn advantageous techniques in care planning, policy, procedures, and process improvement ideas to minimize risk during the Health Inspection process and improve the quality of care in the facility.
