AETNA TO IMPLEMENT PHYSICAL THERAPY ASSISTANT (PTA) AND CERTIFIED OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ASSISTANT (COTA) REDUCTION EFFECTIVE MARCH 1, 2024: Aetna has announced they will implement a payment reduction when outpatient therapy services are provided in whole or in part by a physical therapy assistant (PTA) or an occupational therapy assistant (COTA). WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW - This will apply to both Commercial and Medicare Advantage Plans
- Aetna will use the same modifiers as traditional Medicare
- CQ for services furnished by a PTA
- CO for services furnished by a COTA
- Aetna will pay for eligible services provided by PTAs and COTAs as 85% of allowed services
