AETNA TO IMPLEMENT PHYSICAL THERAPY ASSISTANT (PTA) AND CERTIFIED OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ASSISTANT (COTA) REDUCTION

EFFECTIVE MARCH 1, 2024: Aetna has announced they will implement a payment reduction when outpatient therapy services are provided in whole or in part by a physical therapy assistant (PTA) or an occupational therapy assistant (COTA).

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • This will apply to both Commercial and Medicare Advantage Plans
  • Aetna will use the same modifiers as traditional Medicare
  • CQ for services furnished by a PTA
  • CO for services furnished by a COTA
  • Aetna will pay for eligible services provided by PTAs and COTAs as 85% of allowed services
