Preferred Therapy Solutions is active on the national level helping in a broader coalition effort to oppose the cuts to the Physician Fee Schedule that CMS has proposed for 2021.  The cuts to therapy services CMS has proposed are part of a broader effort where CMS is increasing funding to other specialties such as primary care.  To fight this, we need to actively communicate with Congress to pass legislation that would moderate these cuts.  We have limited time to do this as the legislative calendar is short before the end of the year and Congress has many other issues competing for attention.

On October 30, 2020 U.S., Representatives Ami Bera (D-CA) and Larry Bucshon (R-IN) introduced a bill that would provide for a temporary legislative fix to the cuts rehabilitation therapists face next year.  The bill, the Holding Providers Harmless from Medicare Cuts During COVID-19 Act of 2020 (H.R. 8702), would provide critical relief to providers scheduled to receive Medicare payment cuts under the fee schedule next year by ensuring that payments to these providers – including rehabilitation therapists – are kept stable at 2020 rates for the next two years.

We need to encourage Congress to address these cuts.  Therefore, we are asking that you please reach out to your Member of Congress by clicking the link below to access a simple form to submit a letter urging your member of Congress to cosponsor H.R. 8702.  Nursing facility patients are most vulnerable to COVID-19 and the middle of a global pandemic is the wrong time to cut payment for services including rehabilitation therapy.  We need Congress to help us address these cuts now.

As we have communicated previously, CMS will soon finalize a 9% cut too many Part B services to take effect on
January 1, 2021.  Combined with the devastating impact of COVID-19, these cuts could be detrimental to patient services.  By submitting your letter to Congress, you are advocating for your patients and profession to establish fair and equitable payment solutions and urging immediate action to delay or mitigate payment cuts.

Congress needs to understand the difficult environment we are working in daily and to realize these cuts could have a devastating impact on long-term care. Thank you for your advocacy.

Sincerely,
